I warned you, they would be boring. However I needed to shoot something after installing the latest firmware V1.01. Since I was having that sensor color mismatch issue. 

So far after the update I have not seen it come back. This weekend I promise some new and exciting demo clips from a Race in upstate NY, with vintage and prototype cars :-) 

Take a look at the Boring Samples #2 if you want too. This time I trimmed the clips in the editor before uploading :slight_smile: .. All settings neutral, shot at 400 iso, Mostly 1080p / 1820 FPS some UHD 4k / 937 FPS

Upstate New York was once my neighborhood. What part? I went through grade school in LaGrangeville, not far from Poughkeepsie.

I am just so baffled by why the image is so oversharpened?!  

@young @admin  has anything changed since the initial test footage?  The image lost its more natural look and now has this awful, digitally sharpened vibe that feels really off. 

Curious to see more test footage come in, but pretty discouraged by these latest results!!  To me the Spark was a clear replacement for the Ember - but the look of this test footage is a big step away from that. DR and RAW is still a big plus but the overall feel of the image needs to be in line.

Hope this is something that can be addressed with future FW updates.

Maybe it’s just down to the post processing. Somebody mentioned that the midtone detail seems to be overdone in post and needs to be tuned down. 

Also, the 2K image has a more mushy feel and has a lot more aliasing and edgy artifacts than I originally thought.

Hard to tell - it might partially also shooting conditions/lensing etc.  Looks like these samples had a much deeper DOF - vs. the sample footage that Pixboom posted had a bit more shallow DOF and naturally didn’t appear as sharp all around.

Yeah, I’m sure it will keep improving. Have you tried playing with the RAW files to see if the digital sharpness goes away?

What do you mean? I’ve only been working with the DNGs aka the RAWs. 

There is no way to adjust for sharpness in the Pixboom Cine software (only color, exposure and contrast adjustments).

I mean did you try adjusting the midtone detail and sharpness when editing the RAW files in Davinci?

Yep sharpness to 0 and MTD to -20. Might have to go even more extreme on MTD.  But those adjustments were not necessary with the previous test footage.

Ah I see. I’m sure if we bug them enough, they will fix it in a firmware update later this year. hehe

I can’t remember lol but I think on the last samples that was shot with the 20-55 DZO on the Weed Trimmer shots and the others were with a Sigma 18-35. I honestly can’t remember lol … In the future I will try to be better about logging what shot was on what lens. And I likely I will swap to just using my DZO Vespid primes as they are the most middle of the road lenses I have.

Really appreciate the samples regardless. 

Would love to see some examples at different ISOs. E.g. the same scene with challenging higlights shot with different ISOs (400, 800, 1600) and compensating the exposure with either NDs or shutter speed.
