OLPF for Pixboom

hmm… I see it a little in that first shot, but not in the hair shots with the band later in the video.

That’s what I’m talking about. The beginning shot.  Regardless, I think it would be smart to have the option to put an OLPF in there for problematic shots where aliasing/moire is likely.

Yes, so I’m not an expert on this stuff, but the fact that we see it a touch in just that one shot, but not in others with hair, makes me wonder where it’s really coming from. Did he upscale that first shot in post?

I think it depends too in different lighting situations. With more soft light, it might be less noticeable but in harsher light, you can see it in very fine patterns with high detail. OLPF is really the only way to reduce or eliminate it.

@young @admin Are you going to consider an OPLF still?

We don’t have plans to add an OLPF at this time, as our team found that it wasn’t necessary given the sensor’s pixel size.

I see. Have you tested shooting on fine mesh patterns or ribbons where aliasing/moire is likely to occur? This is where you will see it the most.

You’re right, moiré will always be a factor in those kinds of fine patterns. The thing is, even with an OLPF, it’s only ever mitigated, not completely eliminated.

We feel that sacrificing higher resolution and detail in the vast majority of shooting scenarios just to reduce moiré in a few extreme cases isn’t a worthwhile trade-off.
