Weekly Update — Spark Is On The Move!

Hi Admin,

While we’re on the topic of the SDI… I was looking to see what version the Spark will support ie: 3G,6G or 12G… Your product page has some conflicting info here - Pixboom Spark | 4K 1000fps High-Speed Cinema Camera

It shows an image of the the SDI port as being 12G-SDI however next to it has text saying “Output pristine 6G SDI with advanced features including LUT monitoring”

Thanks for clarifying :-)

The real problem I see with this solution is the lag. The camera already has considerable lag via hdmi (which also REALLY needs to be fixed) and I’m afraid conversion will add even more.

these issues and electronic lens mount operability are my main concerns.  BTW I’m order 78 and got my confirmation email this morning!

100% I hope the lag can be improved, the lag shown at NAB via the hdmi was a bit intense… However I do have to keep in mind the use case of the camera and the lag might not be that bad in actual use. Where it will really be a issue is with my AC trying to pull focus on shots lol…

My comment to them at NAB was the general feel of the camera is degraded with the lag. end of the day only REAL world use and feedback from actual productions will help them move forward as a camera manufacturer… So I try to not to sugar coat my feedback.

Totally. The lag has to be resolved. This camera is for tracking fast moving objects. You can’t have a delay in the feed or you will miss shots. Pulling focus with high speed is already hard, and with the current lag it’s out of the question - so yeah, I agree it needs to be fixed asap before a reputation is developed. I have high hopes they’ll fix this very soon.

The lag didn’t feel worse than my Ember, it was not that bad too focus. Output quality on the spark was better than on the Ember, made it easier to focus for me.

I hate the lag on my ember. I am trying to follow fighter jets going up to 700mph across in front of me, my favorite shot, and the lag is killer. I was hoping the spark will be better, and the 60fps would help too vs the ember 30fps. I am also a gamer so I am used to high framerates.

#92 received email that mine is shipping to LA.

Cool, sounds good. I heard from one USA backer that he had no import fees or tariffs on his so that’s a good sign!  👍

Could you expand on this please? what e lenses mount issues you have seen?

A pdf manual can resolve this, But, it seems like everything is a good reason to push the shipping date. In April everything was apparently on a shelve waiting for a chinese holiday of DHL. Now, packaging not ready, manual not ready, sdi not working, extra mounts are not ready…..frustrating

Weird I don’t mind the lag at all on ember. It might just be the lack of frames the spark displays that comes off as lag? I could be wrong and we’ll all see when we get cameras in hands. Again I’m still confident it’ll resolved.

Hard to say! Well all find out shortly but historically 3rd party electronic mounts have some difficulty working with electronic lenses.

An actual shipping notice with tracking number or just the address confirmation email?

Hi There,

Thanks for bringing this up! That was indeed a typo/error on our product page — the Spark supports 12G-SDI output (up to 4K 60P), not 6G. The page has been updated. Sorry for the confusion, and glad sharp eyes like yours are keeping us on our toes! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hi There,

Good news: the HDMI lag issue has been fixed in the production units — so by the time your camera arrives, that should be a non-issue.

Thanks for the clarification. Since it is a 12G sdi port does the same connection procedure apply as we do with Red & Arri to avoid SDI Burnout?

SDI plugs Last in, First out

I bring this up since after over 1500hours of use on my Komodo the SDI finally decided to burn out live on a job this week… Yay me.

Amazing news! Can’t wait to get it and thanks so much for keeping us up to date on all this stuff. I really do have confidence that these little issues can and will be fixed shortly. I kinda feel bad bringing them up about a non finished camera - we’re all aware that the camera is getting dialed in and I’m thankful the team is around to hear feedback and make changes if needed. It really is refreshing, and not taken for granted.
