No info on bit depth. is raw recording 12, 14, or16 bit. Is the Cinema Dng 8,10, or 12 bit.
This makes a huge difference inn IQ.

Currently it’s 10 bit (inside a 16 bit DNG container), but they’re considering adding some 12 bit recording options, which would cut max framerates in about half when shooting in that mode.
Thanks, let’s hope the 10 bit is holding up. Never saw 10 bit cDng looking amazing.
Freefly is 10 bit and has unusable IQ. The 12 bit Cdng makes the Chronos so beautiful.
This explains why a 4k frame is only 4.7 Mb.
Do you still own the Chronos 2.1? How do you like it?
It’s a solid working ugly Dinosaur, but IQ is amazing. Does an amazing job.
Yeah, I’m still debating if I want to get the Chronos 2.1 or Spark. Got a really good offer for a Chronos 2.1 package with speed booster, MFT plate, batteries and etc, but not sure yet if I’ll make the pledge for the Spark. Do you use Topaz VEAI to upscale the 2.1 files?
Wait until we single frames in cDng from Pixboom. If it can produce the color and rendering comparable to Chronos, then go with Pixboom. If it has breaking and artifacts, stay away from Pixboom.
So are you saying the Chronos 2.1 DNG’s are that good?
Check out this early tester who posted some Spark footage in bad lighting. The Spark image in this example does look very similar to the Chronos 2.1 due to the magenta shift.
Yes in 12 bit at lowest ISO. Never will get better. Will be the benchmark for every other camera.
Did you use Topaz VEAI to upscale the 2.1 files?
Topaz works well, most the time, but good optics and plenty of light are the secret to high speed.
I own Chronos 2.1 and Freefly, for years now. I worked in studio, on location and have swam with both in lots of strange and great lighting. I dont agree at all on your statement that The Freefly image unusable, after two years of commercials, movies and promos, I would say its image quality is unbelievable. I would consider it better than the Chronos, on a head to head. I have been able to make 3’x4’ posters from stills and they hold up. Yes I put my money down for this new rig, the added stops are the big factor to me. Freefly only gets to 400, which is super low unless there is a lot of light.
Wasn’t the 2K mode on the Freefly Wave much worse though with aliasing and moire compared the the 1080P on the Chronos 2.1?
I guess I was talking Ember vs Wave. Wave had issues like the Chronos 1
