Hey everyone! I’ve been wondering if there’s any interest in a Monochrome version of Spark.
Just like how ARRI and other camera manufacturers occasionally release Monochrome cameras, although not in large numbers, in the high-speed photography world, Monochrome means more light intake (no IR filter and no Bayer filter). Plus, the issue of moiré gets reduced. What do you all think?
Hey Maximoff! That be a great idea for users as having a monochrome version would probably mean more light to the sensor and more pixel resolution compared to a color sensor. I wonder if it would enable faster frame rates too vs the color version. I am definitely leaning towards a color version, but this could be a good option for some if the demand is high for it.
From my experience, the frame rate in mono mode doesn’t change in the OG mode. However, when reducing the resolution, you can use binning, which significantly boosts the frame rate. For example, when reducing the resolution from 4K to 2K (4-in-1 binning), the frame rate can nearly quadruple.
We’re also curious about the interest in a Mono version! The more people express their desire for it, the more our engineers will prioritize updates based on the community’s enthusiasm for specific features. So, please share your thoughts—remember, sharing is caring!
