Hey, like probably a lot of people here, I’m a phantom owner looking for an actual upgrade. This thing needs to be an improvement on the flex4k.

Questions

Is there a sensor flip option. With the top screen it needs this to work on top mount for our motion control rigs?

Is there a REAL log profile?

Can we trigger or roll/cut the camera via an SDI port?

Can it run off mains power & v lock with an autoswitch?

For the 1800 frames does it crop or use the whole sensor?

What is the recording codec? If it’s your own one is it supported?

Keen to bin the phantom, vision research don’t care about us anymore. So hoping this is the death of the phantom.

Hi, thanks a lot for your interest.

  • Sensor / image flip: Yes. We will have a flip option for the live monitoring stream (and playback). We’ve been doing some recent tests on motion‑control / robotic arm setups and understand how important this is when the top screen ends up inverted in certain rig orientations.

  • “REAL” log: Could you clarify what you mean by “REAL”? 

  • SDI triggering: Our SDI is one‑way output only; it does not accept command input for roll / cut. You can control the camera via other interfaces (e.g. the EXT port).

  • Power: Yes—mains power and V‑Lock are supported, with automatic switching / seamless changeover.

  • 1800 fps: That mode uses a crop. For exact resolution / frame rate combinations, please check the “Explore the Performance Modes” section on the homepage (As shown in the red dotted box in the figure below).

  • Recording: It is the Pixboom RAW solution—our own recording method.

So just to be clear the 2K modes aren’t lineskipped with aliasing/moire?  That’s a bad thing with the Freefly Wave. The Wave lineskips in their 2K mode and looks really soft with heavy moire and aliasing.

Correct—Spark’s 2K mode is not line‑skipped; it uses a sensor crop. So you won’t get the soft look or heavy moiré/aliasing. The trade‑off is a reduced field of view.

Great! Thanks for the info Young! Yeah, I don’t mind the reduced field of view. It’s actually helpful to me when shooting wildlife since I need the added crop! hehe
