Lighting help // Full Body in Studio

Hey, I’ll be shooting talent full body on the PIXBOOM in studio later July and am wondering how large of lights will be needed to comfortably shoot between 750-1000 fps at a 4-5.6. I have only shot slow mo exterior with the sun so my reference point for how much light is needed is skewed.

would it be recommended to have at least an m90 to key through a 12x frame with 1/2 diffusion? Or multiple 2400 nanlux through the frame? Would a maxibrute also work or will that flicker?

thanks for your help!

I have a shoot tomorrow in studio and can share a few tips after then however just by doing the math now its pretty easy to calculate how many Foot Candles you need.

This was based on a UHD 4K 937 FPS capture using 180 shutter.. So around 1/1874 / sec exposure time, exposing for T4 at 400 Iso

You will need 1903FC … … Now you just need to understand where the light will be and measure the distance between the fixture and subject + add any losses from diffusion.

Minimum spec you could use a 1200x putting out 1840fc from 3M or 9.8ft away ( this would be with a 45 degree reflector ( Hard Light ) per apurtures spec sheet.

To achieve lighting a 12x with 1/2 grid would need alot of light… Like I showed above, you just need the distance of light placement to give an accurate number… Inverse Square Law …  Each time you double the distance you retain only 25% of the light output.

When shooting through or boucing something I like too make two calculations… One from the fixture to the output of the shoot thru or bounce… and then from the NEW soft light source to your subject. Because each time you modify the light it because a new light source.

Thank you for this and the light calculator! I’ll put in some research with this.

Good luck on your shoot tomorrow, would love to hear how it goes!

If you need help with the calculations, send over your lighting diagram with measurements and it should be easy from there.

Let me know what you end up using,
I’m supposed to film a 1x1 object at 1-2k fps next month (assuming they will actually ship my camera eventually).
And also not sure what kind of lights to take on that shoot - alternatively I was thinking to shoot outside with diffusion fabric above my subject.
