My 5 cents on Spark

  • put mounting holes on the camera all around. make it 9:16 friendly with moutning options for that, not just at the bottom. More and more clients want 9:16

  • ditch the HDMI. noone needs that anymore, SDI monitors are super cheap, same with image transmissions gear. SDI is secure, its good, cables break less often… save money and space on other things

  • clean SDI output signal

  • trigger button on the bottom right side of of the lens mount (if you are looking at the camera from the front) like on old Red cameras. Great for single operators and gimbal work. Now you have it on the top left, but bottom right is better. Everyone said that when Red Komodo came out.

  • for PL mount talk to Kippertie. Their Revolva is super good. I use the 0.3,0.6,0.9 ND set, its pefrect for superslowmotion as sometimes you just need super small adjustments. You never need full 2.1ND as the camera needs alot of light.

  • have a 3-pin Fischer port for start/stop from any c-force motors so you can trigger with Arri WCU4 or Hi-5 (most used followfocus units)

  • make the camera a bit longer and add power distribution box for 2-pin and d-tap outs. Look at what Mutiny made for Ember

  • add in manu in and out playbacks. so you can mark the part of the playback and it loops it for clients… so you dont have to scroll all the time for 3 replays in a row.

100% agreed, addresses every problem I have with the ember (other than the noise, but I’m hoping that’s already been addressed)
