Pixboom Spark vs Freefly Ember vs Chronos 2.1 vs Chronos 4K12 comparison footage request!

Hello Pixboom Team! It would be great if you can do some side by side comparisons with test footage from the Pixboom Spark, Chronos 2.1, Chronos 4K12 and Freefly Ember all at once. I think this will best demonstrate visually how much of an image quality, dynamic range improvement and light gathering boost we are getting from the Pixboom compared to those two cameras. It will also instill more confidence in early Pixboom backers and also those that are still on the fence perhaps suspicious of the stated claims of 13 stops dynamic range and light gathering ability. Let me know what everyone else thinks.

A camera shootout is definitely the best way to prove the Spark’s capabilities.

To ensure the results are completely impartial, we think it’s best to have this done by independent creators and KOLs rather than by our own team. Our goal is to get units into their hands and let them show you the unvarnished truth.

We’re confident the Spark will shine in these comparisons. Stay tuned, and thanks for being such an engaged part of the community.:heart_hands:

Hey @pixboo,

I think this is a great point but at these early stages of the Spark @young and the team are trying to promote the camera by giving the experts and other users in the industry access to receive personal feedback in every expo. The side by side test will be possible once the camera is available and sent to us or to the operators that they decide to send to test, once this option is available. But as you said, it is a great idea to do and I’m sure lots of people are going to do that as many reviewers will. What will make Spark shine is the way every operator uses it in different situations or environments. There are many ideas that still haven’t been developed and this will mark the difference. :call_me_hand::call_me_hand:

Great! I have a Chronos 1.4 I can test vs a Pixboom Spark review unit if you allow it. : )

Lucky you get to see them in Amsterdam. Have fun! I wish Pixboom could host an event in the Washington D.C. or the Maryland area. Would love to meet the team!

If thats the case let me know, I own a Chronos 2.1 and a friend has a Freefly Ember. Planning to sell my Chronos 2.1 since I have placed a deposit for the Spark but currently still have it and would love to do a side by side and could even do it on a bolt Jr. Having these robots work along side the camera.

That said from the test footage we have seen (look forward to seeing the footage from the recent LA event) high light roll off certainly is better than the Chronos and curious to see how it compares against the ember. ISO usability is another big one that made me make the decision with the spark since I shoot a lot of stopped down macro work. Just did some Macro lens tests between a few lens manufactures and testing on the chronos and ember are always a great reminder you can never have enough light with macro work.

Yes, I have a Chronos 1.4 and would love to test it as well for the heck of it. :+1:

As far as I know, the comparison between FSI and BSI on Pixboom’s official website is actually a direct comparison with the products you mentioned. The improvement in light intake is fundamental.

It would be nice to get more real life footage though before the campaign begins. The more the better so we can make an informed decision. Ok

I used all the high-speed cameras over the years in many and deferent situations, the Spark will blow your mind.

Which high speed cams have you used?

I couldn’t agree more on this. I’m sure hoping we will see 3rd party reviews well before the Oct. 16th deadline to cancel a Kickstarter pledge. It would be really helpful to have input from an impartial and knowledgeable 3rd party shooter sooner than later :crossed_fingers: I know we’ve been told pixboom will be evaluated by at least a couple bigger name reviewers and am chomping at the bit to see it!

Yes, although it would have been nice to grab this at $7499. I want to wait for third party reviewers before I make my pledge. Really hope too it’s before the October 16 deadline.

I think it is a must (!) that Pixboom (@young) lets a neutral expert review the Spark before the 16th of October. I pledged the amount, but the risk of 7,5k is a high now, with only some sample footage in the gallery, and no respectable independent experts reviewing it thoroughly. A review of the product as it is right now, with some disclaimers that it is a dev product is good enough. They have a few weeks to keep the backers on board, I wish them good luck, and I have a feeling they won’t dissapoint.

Yes, very true to keep back backers on board.

Thank you for your trust and support! Yes, we will soon have an independent expert sharing their experience with the camera, possibly as early as this week!
