Record with Atomos?

Hi Team,
I would love to know if we could record via an external recorder like Atomos to have directly a Prores file ?

The data volume from the Spark is actually too massive for Atomos recorders to handle, so real-time external recording isn’t possible right now.

However, you can definitely look forward to internal ProRes recording coming to the Spark in the future!

Internal pro res is the main reason I bought this. cant wait for that.

Is it known when ProRes will be available in Spark?

ProRes is definitely high on our priority list. However, it requires a fairly long development cycle and the Apple certification process, so we’re targeting a 2026 release.

Btw, between ProRes RAW and the ProRes 422 series, which one would you prefer to see first?

In my case, I definitely prefer the ProRes 422 series. I need the files to be lighter so that I can quickly transfer a 2-second video via USB C to my computer to perform automatic editing of videos for social media, so quality is not a key factor in this particular workflow. Therefore, if ProRes LT or Proxy were available, I would also be satisfied. Are you planning to introduce these types of ProRes to Spark as well?

In which part of 2026 do you expect the ProRes update for Spark? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Will the same frame rate be available in ProRes as in Pixboom RAW?

For example, will it be possible to enable full HD recording while using the full range of the sensor?

What resolutions do you plan to have available for recording in ProRes? 4.6k, 4k, 2.7k;

If we are voting here, I would prefer ProRes raw

Given the sheer volume of frames being generated, and the heavy size of ProRes Raw, I’d personally opt for ProRes 422, so long as it’s true 10 bit 4:2.2, and not a 4:2:0 capture.

Prores 422 for size.

ProRes 4.2.2  this would certainly be sufficient for 90% of recordings, saving space on the hard drive, especially in the wild…

Actually, ProRes RAW file sizes aren’t necessarily larger than ProRes 422. It usually sits somewhere between ProRes 422 HQ and standard 422. In some cases, it can even be smaller than 422.

Definitely prores raw. You need every advantage possible with images from high speed cameras.

Prores 422

ProRes RAW please!

My choices would be, in order:

  1. ProRes RAW/RAW HQ

  2. ProRes 4444/4444 HQ

  3. ProRes 422/422 HQ
