Spark must be better than the ember

Dual ISO is absolutely still here and not going anywhere! It remains one of our most powerful and beloved features, and we would never abandon it. We’ve actually been working hard to make the overall ISO performance even better, but Dual ISO is very much alive and well.:raising_hands:

Thanks @admin - I think there is still some confusion here.

@Alevesque wrote in a separate post:

Actually, the 5 ISO of the Spark are native ISOs. So instead of 2 (dual), you get 5. Each EI value (400, 640, 800, 1250 and 1600) are sensor-native analog switches, which carry the same dynamic range and over/under stops.”

The “dual ISO” early claim was chosen to avoid confusion, since people aren’t used to multiple native ISOs. We were looking at 400 and 1600, but saw no point in excluding the intermediate available native values. It’s not a feature that was removed or changed (still the same great sensor), just a clarification.”

Can you elaborate, because that is most definitely not the definition of a dual-ISO sensor! haahha

I just got a used s5k today, and plan to use that until my spark arrives. I am not as professional as some of you guys but I plan to do some sort of review when I have both in hand, then sell the s5k. That is awesome that the s5k is increasing framerates 10% as soon as I just got it. I still think the spark will have better quality due to the dynamic range and higher iso, built in pre record, and I also like how it has a built in touchscreen, and built in V mount reducing the need for cheese plates and cable

I’ve expanded my answer on the other tread (No Dual-ISO anymore? - #9 by Alevesque).

Basically, rest assured you are still getting “dual-ISO”, and then some. The 400 and 1600 native ISOs are what we refer to as dual-ISO, but the interesting part is that the 640, 800 and 1250 are equally native and essentially offer additional steps to get the most out of the sensor.

Should we get the quintuple-ISO moniker going?
