Spark Update — Factory Visit, Production Progress & What's Next

Hey Pixboomers,

Time for another update. Same rhythm as always — real stuff, no spin.

Fresh From the Factory Floor

I visited our latest factory yesterday and brought back some photos to share with you directly. Here’s where things stand:

Assembly of the individual modules is complete. Spark is divided into seven modules, each assembled separately before being joined together to form the complete unit.

With China’s National Holiday (Golden Week) starting October 1st and the factory resuming on the 6th, full-unit assembly begins October 6th — and so does burn-in testing.

Here’s how the burn-in process works: 20 units at a time, 4 hours at 45°C. Once a batch passes, units move on to mount installation. We’ve also introduced a new optical filter cleanliness inspection standard as an additional quality checkpoint before units leave the line.

This batch: 300 units planned for production.

Shipping Timeline

We’re still on track with the original plan — all orders placed before end of September 2026, including backers and pre-orders, will ship by end of October.

As of today, we have no signals of any delays.

Address confirmation emails will start going out to customers from mid-October onwards, ahead of shipments.

On the Optical Filter Dust Issue

For the small number of Pixboomers who’ve reported dust on their optical filters — we hear you, and we haven’t forgotten. After the Golden Week holiday, we’ll be releasing a dedicated cleaning guide, along with directing affected units to designated dust-free repair centers in your region. We’ll make sure this gets resolved properly.

We’re always listening. Every piece of feedback directly shapes how we improve — both in quality and in production speed.

A Spark Firmware Update Is Coming

We’re also getting ready to release a new Spark firmware update. This interim release will fix known issues and improve the overall experience, while adding two new features:

  • One-shot Auto White Balance (AWB)
  • HDMI output support at 29.97 and 59.94 fps

Our software product manager is running the final tests now. He’ll share the full release details on our website and in the community when the update is ready. Consider this an early heads-up.

When can we expect our additional purchased media to ship?

It´s getting a little frustrating - in the last post shipment was promised for late September, arriving mid October. Now it more seems like shipping late October, so probably arriving mid November - so more than a year since backing up on Kickstarter. I can understand any difficulties and problems - and I rather get a camera with all known problems solved than one with any problems. Still I can´t understand why such a huge batch is not splitted into smaller ones (I´m just some 50 number over the 340 backers which already received their units - and smaller batches were already sent earlier), but it might have some reasons. I´m already losing some jobs and in the long term market share, because some other companies already have the camera and clients move to them (and yes - I could have backed the project earlier, so it´s also my “fault”).

I´m hoping the promised timeframe will be kept this time and at least the additional items (Mount & 2nd Card) will be shipped with the camera, which might compensate for the delays.

So these are not being shipped progressively like the last batches, but altogether? It doesn’t make a difference whether you’re backer #341 or #460, they all ship the same time?
