SSD with 4TB or 8TB storage without prerecord

Hi Young

is there a possibility to get more storage on your SSD without prerecord/buffer function?

I understand there are workflows where you need prerecord. Like wildlife filming and so on.

But there are workflows in sports when you want to record the whole event, and decide in post which parts you take.

For my workflow 8 TB would be lovely, at least 4 TB. Is there any possibility?

How would you feel if the frame rate was halved (4K @ 500fps), but you got an 8TB Pro Card?

4 TB and all framerates would be better  If I remember right, Freefly Ember offers two options:

2.5TB with prerecord and 4 TB without prerecord and all speeds and framrates. But the Codec is ProRes LT.

Are you adding ProRes to the camera? Maybe ProRes LT will allow lower datarates then raw, making it possible to use all framerates on a 8TB SSD with a LOG profile and User LUTs?

Yes, you’re absolutely correct. We plan to support the ProRes series in the future, but not at launch—it will be added later through a firmware update. At that time, due to the lower bitrate, it will be possible to use storage cards with other capacities. At launch, if you urgently need larger capacity storage cards, the option is to work with half the frame rate.

Are you saying when Pro Res is available, we will be able to use other commercial external SSD’s like Sandisk or Samsung for recording to?

Yes, because third-party SSDs should be able to match the bandwidth requirements at lower bitrates. However, there might be some stability issues with third-party SSDs, depending on their quality control.

Got you! Thank you!

What will be the write endurance of the flash used in the 2.5 tb module?

Curious about this too.

The write endurance of the flash used in the 2.5 TB module is 42,000 TBW. This ensures long-term reliability and durability for high-performance applications.
