Regarding your question: I´m a fan of physical buttons - so for me a small switch to lock the record button would be great.
If you’re also thinking about a side handle, I could imagine some more buttons and maybe also a wheel on that. This could be very good for handheld shooters - especially when shooting solo. I could imagine also a record button on it (most important button), to start/stop without moving my hand somewhere else. I use the Tilta TT-0511 handle quite a lot for that case connected via cable to R/S. And I could also imagine a wheel to change settings (depending on what I choose, e.g. Iris, Shutter or maybe even scroll through playback in that mode) on the fly and 3-4 buttons - maybe on the inside of the handle, so I don´t accidentally press some, with different options through the menu (e.g. change to wheel to another setting, go to playback mode, switch between LUTs - log image and rec 709 image, etc.). I could imagine this sidehandle to have more options and be more useful to users than the top handle.

Never really off camera for 90% of people.
The button on the front of the camera is way too sensitive.
The options for the assignable buttons on the camera are fine and it would be nice if those were on the handle too.
I prefer to plug everything into the camera battery or dtap splitter. I dont want another type of battery to buy or charge.
I would mount teradek and the monitor. 1/4 and 3/8 with arri locating pins would be enough. Personally, would be a huge fan of a 3/8 arri locating pin mount on the very back of the handle to add handle exenstions.

This is an interesting concept. Such a multi-purpose roller-button can be installed.

Thanks! The NATO clamp is staying, no question there. What we’re looking into is whether the quick-release can come with two swappable interfaces, so caged rigs and bare bodies are both covered.
Happy to be of service! Honest admission though: I’ve never seen a handle with a locking switch on the REC button. Can you tell me more about that? On the OSD discussion above, we’re also looking into an output that carries the camera’s GUI along with the picture to the far end. That’s what would make a handle truly remote-capable, controlling everything the camera can do; without a screen, remote operation is blind, and that feels like trouble waiting to happen. If the GUI output works out, maybe the handle doesn’t need that many buttons on it?
Appreciate the straight talk, lists like this are easy to act on. The front REC button being too sensitive is a camera-side issue and it’s been passed over. On mounting you can relax: ARRI locating pins plus 1/4 and 3/8 threads are baseline on this handle, everything on your list will be there, the rear extension point included. On the battery I’ll be equally straight: a handle that controls the camera off the rig has to carry one, no way around it. Maybe our job is making sure you never notice it’s there.

Thanks for the picture, suggestions that come with hardware are the best kind. If I’m seeing it right, that’s a roller off a gimbal handle. I’ve seen similar ones on focus handles too, but aren’t they usually fixed to a single function? Wouldn’t making a roller configurable bring its own hassle of defining and setting it?
Yes, it can be confusing, but also this concept is a very nice thing for many camera functions. One button above to start recording and stop is also nice. I think there are a lot of possibilities, you need to test it all in real time. But when you have hardware with more buttons, you can change it as needed. When you have one button, then the possibilities are limited
Thank you for the update and reaching out. However, good camera handles are readily available from third-party manufacturers and should not be a priority right now. Instead, Pixboom must focus urgently on the vital necessities required for basic camera operation, such as the HMI overlay for the EVF and external monitors. Without this core functionality, the camera remains virtually unusable for run & gun filming in the field as we have experienced with great frustration the last couple of weeks. More importantly, Pixboom must surely direct their energy toward honouring your agreements with a couple of hundred of backers still left stranded with no camera ! We invested our money in good faith based on an ‘expected January delivery’ . Ten months later, transparent communication and order fulfilment must take precedence over optional accessories. Pixboom have a lot to answer for. Delivering functional cameras to all backers as quickly as possible needs to be your priority…

The people designing a handle aren’t the same people physically building cameras to ship out. There might be some minimal overlap between designing a handle (which will require some software integration) and those responsible for the on screen overlays, but without a functional/final handle design, there’s not much software integration that can happen yet, so likely doesn’t have a significant impact on any other software development times right now.
But I do agree, we really, really need some overlays. I need to know if the camera is actually rolling when triggered remotely and I can’t physically see the camera itself.
