As a wildlife filmmaker looking into this camera, I was wondering if there is any kind of weather sealing/weather resistance that the device has? If not will there possibly be some weather sealed options in the future or a separately sold cover specific to this camera?
Yes it’s a great idea! And a waterhousing will be nice to!
I agree 100%. Having the capability of having that frame rate underwater would be amazing but I think my concern would be the camera overheating. I noticed the Spark has kind of an open grid on the outside of one side of it and you can see the fan in there. I’m guessing even with weather sealing it might cause overheating issues since the hot air the camera would usually be pushing out would have no place to escape. I would like to get that confirmed but I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Hi there,in your wildlife shooting scenarios, what level of waterproof and dustproof protection are you typically looking for? For example, are you thinking about an IP rating like IP67?
Just a heads up, the Spark features an active cooling fan, so it’s not completely sealed. When it comes to protective cases, an underwater housing is crucial. We are currently exploring suppliers for design options. Do you have any favorite underwater housing references that you could share?
Additionally, aside from underwater housings, are there any other protective cases for different scenarios that you think are great? Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
With waterproof housing, I couldn’t give really any feedback or recommendations due to not having much experience with it but also most if not all housings on the market seem to be for dslr body cameras.
Right now I only have to use a LensCoat rain cover for my setup since both my camera and lens are weather sealed, and have been through storms with it just fine. However, in the case of having an active cooling fan, I feel like an IP67 rating at least would be needed for piece of mind.
As far as underwater housings go, I feel the biggest issue with them have been price point and just being able to even trust something that is on the lower end cost wise.
We will carefully consider your suggestions and work towards finding feasible solutions in the future. Please stay tuned, and we hope to continue receiving your support and valuable insights!
Hey Pixboom,
I’m using Nauticam underwater housing—they’re great and widely used by many underwater filmmakers, so it might be a good idea for you to catch up with them regarding the Spark housing. Cheers.
Thank you for your comment! We really appreciate your suggestion and will definitely look into it. Cheers!
