Weird warping issue aliasing in some of the Pixboom Spark Promo Footage

Hi team, I was examining some of the footage more closely and if you look at the shot at :38 - 0:48 there is some weird motion aliasing/jaggy artifacts near his legs and pants. Also from 2:03 to 2:11 there’s the same kind of artifacts on the waves. Any reason what is causing this? Many months ago I recommended maybe an OLPF to help combat these issues if it’s due to aliasing/moire from the sensor.

Having looked at these parts of the YouTube video, I agree that some kind of response to this would be nice. Overall the footage looks pretty good. Really curious which ISO was used for the various shots to start getting a better sense of what graded/finished 1600 ISO video from the BSI sensor looks like compared to my 400 ISO max on the FSI sensor in my Ember S5k.

I hope we can get some clarification what those artifacts are. 

From 0:38-0:48

Its the shape of the light bulbs, brought back from clipping the sensor through the hard egde of the dark trousers, resulting in the big circle shape of the bulbs with cyan CA. Not the cameras fault in my opinion.

From 2:03-2:11

A special situation, where the sun coming from the left hits the water drops, and the drops function like a prism. Like seeing a rainbow. You get a lot of moving spectral colors, because the water drops are moving.

Okay, I thought it looked like color moire/aliasing cause the Chronos cameras have the same problem from experience owning and shooting on one. I wonder if external OLPF will help with that more. 

Moire will always result in a red/blue mix because of the Bayer sensor structure. Here you can clearly see yellow, purple and son on.

To be sure, you will at least need a Siemens Star to check.

  Where do I get the star?

You can download a high res PDF and print it or buy online. I would print it. The moire should be visible in the very middle of the Siemens Star when focused correctly, as detail/fine structures increase in the middle. Usually it is used to set up your back focus on parafocal lenses.

  I’ll check it out. It would still be nice to hear from the team what it is. 

I think this might have something to do with the lens dispersion, haha.
