Hey there! I’m Young, the founder of Pixboom.
First off, huge thanks for all the support and love for Pixboom! Since we kicked off at NAB, we’ve got tons of awesome feedback. Our community’s buzzing with folks who love slow-motion, sharing cool ideas every day. I think we’ve turned into a creative crew—how about we call ourselves Pixboomers? Sounds fun, right?
I must say, your passion really inspires us! I check out every post from you Pixboomers and share your ideas with our tech team.
Here’s some scoop on the stuff you’ve been curious about:
Feature Suggestions
1. Anamorphic De-squeeze Preview Support
Thanks to @Pixboo and @shadisharar for this fantastic suggestion! Spark will definitely have this feature at launch!
2. Adding an OLPF (Optical Low Pass Filter)
Thanks again, @Pixboo! This is indeed important but quite complex. Beyond image factors, physical size constraints pose a significant challenge. A proper OLPF requires thick crystals, which can introduce various issues. We’re actively working on technical designs and simulations.
However, let me tease you a bit—our sensor front-end design includes something innovative that’s quite different from traditional high-speed cameras. It’s even more intuitive and impactful than an OLPF. Stay tuned!
3. Lens Mount Support
Ah, the hottest topic among Pixboomers! Special shoutout to @justforfeedback, @xianyu, @Samana76, @shadisharar, @infinityphotorob (and everyone else—sorry I can’t tag everyone, you’re just too awesome and numerous!).
Spark features an interchangeable lens mount design. We currently support actively locked E-mount and PL-mount, both with electronic communication. Yes, you’ll be able to use plenty of Sony electronic lenses! Autofocus, however, is complex and won’t be available in early firmware versions—but it will come in future updates.
We’ve heard your voices loud and clear regarding Z-mount, L-mount, and EF-mount. Good news: Spark’s design has ample flange focal distance allowance, technically making these mounts feasible. The order of release will depend on Pixboomer demand!
Product Specifications
4. Remote Control (@Senman)
Spark supports remote control via smartphone through Wi-Fi. Additionally, it has a sync port for hard triggering.
5. Dynamic Range
We’re currently conducting rigorous and precise dynamic range tests. We don’t want to give you exaggerated or biased numbers—so please stay tuned for accurate results!
6. Operating Temperature (@Jose076)
Spark is designed to operate comfortably between 0°C and 40°C. It can function beyond this range, but higher temperatures will increase power consumption. We’re also conducting comprehensive tests for shock resistance, vibration, drop tests, salt mist, and more.
7. FPV Shooting Compatibility (@jrastrong)
Absolutely! Spark’s weight and size are perfectly FPV-friendly (assuming your FPV drone can handle something like a Komodo-X or Komodo).
8. Sensor Manufacturer
Sorry, folks—can’t spill the beans yet due to confidentiality agreements. But rest assured, we’re deeply involved in sensor tuning. This will be the first backside-illuminated high-frame-rate sensor specifically for creators, promising significant improvements in light capture.
Market & Availability
9. Sample Footage Download
Our web team is working on a full video sample download and sharing page, but it might take some time. Considering your anticipation, we’ll initially share footage via Vimeo, linked to our homepage, during an upcoming minor website update (stay tuned!).
10. Spark Testing Applications
We’ll launch our testing application soon! In the coming months, selected creators will receive the first prototypes. As @Misterboyle suggested, Pixboom won’t just pick influencers—we’re looking for creative, innovative, and emotionally engaging content creators!
Additionally, inspired by @Pixboo’s idea (original post), we’re planning exciting competitions. Specific details are still being finalized, so keep your eyes peeled!
11. Offline Events & Meetups
Great news—we’ll be attending Cine Gear 2025! See you all in Los Angeles next month! And we’ll also be heading to Europe in September—can you guess where? (Hint: It’s probably exactly where you’re thinking! )
12.Official Spark Launch Date
Spark is in the final stages of development and rigorous testing. We’re thrilled to announce its official launch this fall!
13.Pricing
Ah, the million-dollar question! Please forgive me for keeping this one under wraps for now. It’s a secret I’ll guard until the official launch event—let’s keep the suspense alive!
Keep pushing the boundaries of creativity! That’s our roundup addressing the key concerns from you amazing Pixboomers! Thanks again for your enthusiasm and support. Starting now, I’ll be posting updates on product, tech, and market progress at irregular intervals. I’ll also be around daily with our engineers to answer your questions.
Cheers,Young
