KS Update 1: Sprinting Towards Mass Production! Quieter, Tougher, and a Few Surprises

Hola Pixboomers,

First off, a huge hug to you all! Thank you for your continued support of Pixboom. Over the past month, our teams have been firing on all cylinders with one goal in mind: getting the product into mass production and into your hands as soon as possible.

Today, we want to share a few “milestones” we’ve conquered these months.

Software Evolution: You Asked, We Delivered

In previous reviews, we noticed two main things you cared about most: Fan Noise and Pre-recording. We took detailed notes on your feedback, and making these perfect became our top priority.

1. Fan Control: We know you want a quiet Spark. After rounds of rigorous thermal testing, we have good news: for most usage scenarios, medium-to-low fan speeds are completely sufficient for cooling.

So, we’re giving the control back to you. As shown in the video below, you can now switch fan speeds to match your environment. When set to “Low,” Spark becomes a silent beast.

(Pro tip: Put on your headphones before watching the video to truly experience the “moment of silence.”)

2. Pre-recording: Better Than Expected! Yes, Pre-recording is live! And in the current version, we’ve managed to achieve nearly 2.5 seconds of pre-recording time (that’s even longer than the 2 seconds we originally promised! ).

Our engineering team has been having a blast using it to capture birds—it’s honestly so much fun. Check out the video below for a montage of clips captured using this feature.

Hardware Testing: Built to Last

As you know, reliability is the heartbeat of any product. To ensure the Spark we deliver is tough enough for your adventures, we ran a series of grueling tests. The results? Pretty awesome!

  • Electrical: Our unit has finally passed the strict EMC testing! Next, we are kicking off certification procedures for various countries. This is our “golden ticket” for official delivery. While certifications take time (an unavoidable reality), we are pushing the pedal to the metal, aiming to hit that crucial late-January milestone!

  • Temperature: While Spark’s recommended operating temperature is 0°~40°C, we built in extra design margin for extreme conditions. The tests gave us a nice little surprise—someone in the community asked if it could turn on at -20°C? The answer is a resounding YES

  • Vibration: We designed an insanely strict vibration test standard for Spark (even the on-site testers joked that most camera products don’t get tested this hard). The result: Spark passed almost everything. We missed the mark by a tiny bit on just one incredibly strict test, but don’t worry—we’ve pinpointed the issue and are already fixing it. We are fully confident about the next round!

Production Update: Partnering with the Best

To match Spark’s high standards for quality and finish (yes, it’s a beauty, so we have to be picky), we have partnered with a World-Class Factory. This manufacturer is the go-to partner for the best consumer electronics brands you know and love (you know the ones :red_apple:).

Currently, we are running the final small-batch trial (PVT stage) to iron out any potential risks. If everything goes smoothly, we will move straight into mass production!

A Fun Little Stat

Finally, we wanted to share an interesting trend from our backend data: When it comes to color choice, the ratio of Black vs. Silver is currently 2.5 : 1:black_heart::grey_heart:

It looks like many of you are fans of the “Dark Knight” aesthetic, though the Silver is equally stunning. Thank you for loving both!

Before we go, we want to wish a very Happy Thanksgiving to all our Pixboomers in the US! :turkey::fallen_leaf:

Thanks again for your incredible support and patience. See you next month! :heart_hands:

Warm regards,
The Pixboom team :orange_heart:

As an early buyer, this kind of updates are very important to me!

Looking forward to the 12bit mode! Need a extremely clean image

Happy to hit the button for the Silver model … it’s just GORGEOUS.

Please take inspiration from the Hasselblad X2D menus, if you have screen space, use it!

Why not having fan Speed - Auto? Spin the slowest speed needed for the camera to be happy?

Exciting stuff all! Can we get the pre roll to four seconds?

Nice! The excitement is building

I’m still hoping for an L-mount so that I can use my TT Artisan lenses on it

Haha, thanks! Now I have a ‘legitimate’ reason to pick one up as my New Year’s gift…

That’s planned for a later firmware update. We’ll be adding an Auto mode that ramps the speed up or down based on real-time component temps.

L-mount is definitely a great system. The catch is that we’d need to officially join the L-Mount Alliance, which involves some pretty steep licensing fees and a really lengthy approval process.

Even if you aren’t able to deliver an L-mount at launch, I hope you’re able to add L-mount to the available options down the road.
