I for one am not thrilled about all the delays to be quite honest. The window of opportunity with image capture is looming down on us like a vulture to a squirrel
. AI is coming for us all so it would seem the sooner we get the tools to keep us relevant the better and you promised January and we are not likely to be using this tool by summer (LA) kinda the same dance as RED back in the day. Meanwhile I can only imagine the interest the company is procuring on a monthly basis with the several millions in deposits.
Thanks for pointing that out — and no worries, we completely understand that Mac is widely used in the filmmaking industry.
We support both Windows and macOS, so Mac users are fully covered as well.
No worries, we support both Windows and Mac OS.
We understand the frustration, and honestly, we share a lot of it ourselves. The delays have been difficult on our side too.
But as we mentioned in the post, we can’t release a product that isn’t fully ready simply to meet a date. If we rushed it out before it was ready, that would only create more problems for users later.
We also want to clarify that the company is not profiting in any meaningful way from the deposits. The actual cost of procurement — including chips and SSDs — has already gone well beyond the crowdfunding amount.
At this point, the only responsible path is to keep moving forward and make sure the product is ready before it ships. We know the wait has been frustrating, and we sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience, even when the feedback is tough.
Thank you for the update. I am happy to hear you are taking a conservative n safe approach on this. I rather have the bugs ironed out, rather than finding it out on actual shoot.
Both Windows and macOS will be supported! ![]()
Hi, thank you so much for the kind words and thoughtful feedback — we really appreciate it.
For 12-bit and the new UI, the current target is the June software release. Regarding ProRes, we’re prioritizing ProRes RAW first, with standard ProRes following after that. If everything stays on track, we expect to show a ProRes RAW demo at IBC in the Netherlands this September, and the full release will most likely come closer to the end of the year.
And for transcoding, Pixboom Cine already supports batch transcoding, so you can process footage in batches instead of doing everything one clip at a time.
Thanks again for the support and for sharing such detailed feedback with us.![]()
Not exactly — we can’t say yet that there will be no shipping in April. We just want everyone to be prepared with a Plan B, just in case.
Pixboom Cine supports multiple FPS options as listed bleow, and we’ve also passed cold-temperature testing at -20°C.![]()
Thanks for the update to the cold testing, -20 sounds great… I have a project that will take me into those extremes this year, I am happy to know the Spark will be ready for it! … As for the 24fps play back maybe I am splitting hairs however my question was more of a technical one, Is the 24fps actually 24 fps or is it 23.98 fps…. This starts to matter for editors when we get into workflow discussions and using lockit box’s for time code.
Thank you for all these updates! On a different topic, once you ship the camera, are we going to have to spend a crazy amount for import fees (customs/dutys) Usually when I buy anything outside of Canada, I will get charge taxes import fees and considering the cost of this camera I want to make sure I won’t get a crazy bill when it gets at my door. I remember that we paid shipping cost but it wasn’t that much. Can you confirm that?
No need to worry, you should not be charged any unusually high import fees or customs duties when the camera is delivered. The shipping cost you already paid covers the shipment, and we do not expect any large additional charges upon arrival.
Thanks for clarifying — and that’s a great technical question.
At the moment, we only provide export in whole-number frame rates, so right now it is 24.00 fps rather than 23.98 fps.
That said, we do plan to add 23.98 fps support in a future update, as we understand how important that can be for editing workflows and timecode-related use cases.
Really appreciate you raising this.![]()
But what if they do want to charge us fees after all? I’m not familiar with customs clearance procedures. In that case, could we simply hold the goods and get in touch with you?
Great follow up question about the tariffs, duties, and taxes. I’ve been reassured multiple times that there would not be any for USA customers and others but of course we won’t really know until the first early backers get their camera. It will be interesting what the scenario will be.
All backers expect is full and frequent communication. We may hope for more at times but this backer expects only inclusion via regular updates, not just because we are invested, but because we are believers and supporters in the effort to achieve something beautiful, amazing and useful. Thank you for all, s
I’m just really worried because we only paid 100$ for shipping and usually duties are calculated based on the value of the product you buy. I did a quick calculation and if what they’re telling us is false then I could expect something like a 3000$ bill on top of what we paid for already (i’m in Canada)
Yes, that’s one of the reasons I didn’t buy yet (I’ll wait for used market and early backer reviews) along with my uncertainty on the 2K image quality.
Thanks for sharing your concern — that’s completely understandable.
Please don’t worry, if any customs clearance issue comes up during delivery, we will work with you to resolve it and make sure you are properly supported.
We do not expect backers to be left dealing with unreasonable unexpected charges on their own.
We’ll keep everyone updated with more shipping details as we get closer.
Yes — if that happens, please feel free to contact us first.
We will assist with the customs clearance process and work with you to make sure the shipment reaches you smoothly. There’s no need to worry — if any additional charges are incurred as part of the process, we will help reimburse the actual costs.
We’ll make sure to support you if anything comes up.
