Yeah, def. can’t solder myself. hehe
Thanks so much for your thoughtful feedback—we really appreciate it!
- The LEMO connector idea is a great one—definitely something we’ll keep in mind for future versions. For now, DIY is a good workaround.
- For the AC power adapter, since our backers are all over the world with different needs, picking the right plug for your country (like 110V or 220V) works well.
- Love your idea about a round shim case—we’ll definitely consider it for future updates! Thanks for the link.
- The Pro-card/USB controller currently maxes out at 20 Gbps, but we’re hoping to bump that up in the future to make offloading faster and easier.
Hi Pixboom,
hope you’re doing well. Any updates on the cameras that didn’t pass the stress test two weeks ago?
Thanks in advance!
“Once we receive those results, we will share them with the community as quickly as possible. Our next shipping update will also be based on what we learn from that external testing, and we expect to share the next verified results with you next week.”
I think we’re due another update… any progress with this?
Curious too about their recent stress test.
I’m surprised you’ve had so many problems with straight LEMO power connectors. I’ve been doing filmmaking full time for 16 years and have never broken one. All the major companies use straight connectors as standard on their cinema cameras: Arri, RED, Sony (XLR instead of LEMO), and Blackmagic.
Now I’m not saying there’s no use case (90° clears better on gimbals like you mention, but who’s using AC power on a gimbal?). I think a straight LEMO is the right option for the standard connector. Maybe somebody will offer a straight female to 90° male) pigtail.
The problem is not saying a straight lemo is not as good or capable however it’s looking at the whole picture where it becomes an issue me.
Given the placement of the Lemo power input on the Pixboom this will cause the power connector to stick out from the main camera body a decent amount and cause a 90 degree strain the cable, over time this will lead to excessive wear on the copper conductors. Most companies employ a large strain relief on the lemo here to help but that just makes the connector even larger. In my opinion an even better design is a 360 rotatable lemo connector and this allows the user to choose the direction he wants. And yes, a number of camera manufactures use a straight lemo and yes they also collect money from the user when it breaks lol.
When you look at alot of what people use in aftermarket versions of things as they have rigged them out. most AC’s will swap to a 90 degree lemo when appropriate.
For my projects, in and off car rigs, drones, coasters and the occasional handheld shot a slim, clean build means faster workflows and less damage over time.
Just my two cents…
Same here. I was hoping for some news, preferably good news, on that. Hopefully shipping will begin soon…
Is this also for the UK?
Hi there,
Just to make sure I understand correctly, what do you mean by “also for the UK”? ![]()
Hi! Thanks for checking in — we just received the latest update, and I’m happy to share that we’ve officially passed the high-temperature testing standard.
We’ll be sending out a new update with more details by the end of this week. Thanks so much for your patience and support!![]()
Thanks for your patience — please hang tight for my update this weekend. I’ll share more as soon as I can!
Hi! Thanks for checking in — we’ll share the latest update with everyone this weekend. Appreciate your patience! ![]()
Hey. Sorry not sure if it put my comment in the right place. It was in reference to minimal import duty/tax. Have you got confirmation on how much that will be into the uk?
Thanks
J
Great, thank you for getting back to us, looking forward to the next update.
AWESOME NEWS…
Have you ever used those Stay Puffed magnetic swiveling AC adapters? Those are pretty cool. Not exactly the solution you’re looking for or a replacement for what you’re asking for (they still stick straight out a ways and are a little on the bulky side), but the MagSafe-like disconnect may help save some of your power ports. I will note that it’s not a no-battery, AC adapter scenario replacement as the magnetic coupler can come disconnected and if you don’t have a battery on the camera, it’ll shut down.
That seems like a genuinely bad idea on a camera that writes data off to a SSD. I can only imagine the corruption that could ensue if the power was pulled at the wrong moment. Nice device tho… will keep it in of mind….. for now it seems that Munity saw the wisdom on there expansion unit and put a 90 degree Lemo…
It’s only genuinely a bad idea if you use it incorrectly. It’s designed to supplement a camera running on batteries. If somebody decides to run it off just the plug, that’s an operator problem, not a product problem.
This is true! :-)
