Spark Community Update — Back from NAB, Labour Day, and First Shipments

Dear Pixboomers,

It’s been three weeks since my last update — the longest gap we’ve had in a while.

Between NAB and China’s Labour Day holiday, the timing didn’t leave much room. For those unfamiliar: Labour Day in China runs from May 1st through May 5th — it’s a national public holiday, which means factories, logistics, and most operations are paused during that window.

Today is my first day back. So let’s get into it.

1. User Manual — Final Proofreading Underway

We are currently in the final proofreading stage of the user manual. This should wrap up tomorrow, after which it moves directly into print production.

It’s one of those things that sounds small but matters — we want every Spark to ship with documentation that’s actually clear and useful, so we’re taking the time to get it right.

2. Shipping Timeline — First Units Going Out May 15th–22nd

We’ve been in active communication with reliable international logistics partners, and I can now give you a more specific picture:

  • First batch: shipping begins between May 15th and May 22nd
  • By end of June: approximately ~300 units shipped out progressively
  • July onward: remaining units continue shipping
  • Target: all units shipped before the end of August

This is the most concrete timeline we’ve been able to share, and we’re committed to it.

Photos of the current state are below — I know some of you have been wanting to see where things actually stand right now, so here you go.

3. A Few Words on NAB

NAB was genuinely one of the highlights of this whole journey so far.

We had the chance to sit down and talk with a number of backers — and friends of backers — in person. Real conversations, not comment threads. It’s a completely different energy, and every single one of those interactions reminded us why we’re doing this.

We’re sharing a few photos from the show floor below. As you can see, the team showed up — and had a good time doing it.

4. Cine Gear — Come Say Hi

On that note: we’ll also be exhibiting at Cine Gear.

If you’re going to be there and want to see Spark in person, get your hands on it, or just come have a conversation — please do. We genuinely enjoy meeting the people who’ve been on this journey with us. It means more than a comment section ever can.

More details on the booth soon.

A Note on the Gap

I know three weeks is longer than usual between updates. I’d rather be honest about why than pretend it didn’t happen — NAB was full-on, and the holiday followed immediately after. Now that I’m back, updates will resume at their normal cadence.

As always, thank you for your patience. We’re in the final stretch now — and this time, I mean it in the most literal sense.

One Last Thing — An Unexpected 12-Hour Hawaii Stopover

I’ll leave you with this.

On the flight back from Los Angeles to Hong Kong, a fellow passenger suffered a cardiac emergency mid-flight. Cathay Pacific made the call without hesitation: emergency diversion to Hawaii, six hours into the flight.

So that’s how our team ended up with an unplanned 12-hour stay in Hawaii.

Honestly? Hawaii is stunning. Truly. But after NAB, the Labour Day rush, and everything in between — we were also absolutely exhausted, which made the whole thing feel a little surreal.

Still. A life was saved on that flight. And somehow, that makes the entire chaotic journey feel like it carried a little more meaning than just getting home.

Alright — now I’m actually back. Let’s ship some cameras very soon.

Best regards,
Jing and the Pixboom Team
 🧡

Maybe don’t say “First batch ships from May 5th onward” and “So here we are. Done.” if things weren’t actually ready to ship.

I understand delays happen, but that last update made it sound like shipping was fully unlocked and confirmed.

Hey there,

You’re right, and I’m not going to try to talk around it.

I said May 5th. It’s now looking like May 15th–22nd. That’s a slip, and it happened because a few final steps — including the user manual and logistics coordination — took longer than I had accounted for when I wrote that update.

I own that. I should have built more buffer into the timeline before putting a specific date in writing.

What I can tell you is that the delay is measured in days, not weeks or months. First shipments are going out May 15th–22nd, and I’ll be posting tracking confirmations as units go out the door.

I know sorry, it’s a bit later doesn’t fully land after a long wait. But that’s where we are, and I’d rather say it plainly than dress it up.:heart_hands:

Appreciate the honest reply, that’s all I was looking for. I think a lot of us have felt let down by the communication and shifting timelines, but I’m looking forward to receiving the camera between May 15th and 22nd!

May 15-22 they will start shipping, assuming no more “slips” - so add your queue number and shipping time and we’re looking into June / Jul…

Fair point. I’m backer #38, so I’m hoping I’m in that first batch if they’re shipping close to pledge order. Mostly just hoping units actually start moving May 15–22.

Hey,

when will address confirmations go out? my address has changed in the last month.

Honestly? I hope you’re wrong — and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure you are.

I won’t pretend the track record makes it easy to take my word for it. I get it. Right now I feel a bit like a sandwich — caught between what I want to promise you and what I can actually control.

What I can say is: May 15th–22nd is not a number I pulled out of thin air. It’s what our logistics team has confirmed, and I’m holding them to it.

June for your unit is possible depending on queue position — I won’t lie about that. But I’ll be posting shipping confirmations as units go out, so you’ll see it happening in real time rather than just taking my word for it.:face_holding_back_tears:

Hey! Please drop us an email at support@pixboom.com and our team will be happy to help you out.

I hear you on the communication. There were moments where I could have been more precise, and I’m carrying that forward. What I can tell you is that every update I write, I’m pushing as hard as I can on my end to make sure the words match reality.

I get it… nothing ever happens as fast as we want in life anymore… I look around of how many promises someone made to me and how many of them happend on the exact time and it seems that world went into some overdrive mode that can’t catch up on it self.

It’s not a blame it’s just a reality we live.
Keep us posted, people like to see both good and bad - it’s life.

Are you still planning to send emails for everyone to confirm shipping addresses / add-ons etc? As mentioned in your previous update?

This genuinely made my day a little better to read. Thank you for that.

You’re right — the world does feel like it’s in overdrive, and somehow everything is both moving too fast and too slow at the same time.

We’ll keep showing up, good news and bad. The rest, we’ll leave to time. :heart_hands:

Yes, absolutely! Our support team will be reaching out to everyone by email to confirm shipping addresses and any add-ons before your unit goes out. You’ll hear from us — no need to chase us down.

If you don’t see anything in your inbox when the time comes, please also check your spam folder just in case, and you can always reach us at support@pixboom.com.

Thanks for the update! So I’m guessing that if I need to change my shipping address and country, I can just wait and reply to the email that will be sent out? Or should I reach out via email now?

Thanks!

Backer #24

Great question! If you’d like to update your shipping address or country sooner rather than later, feel free to reach out to us directly at support@pixboom.com— we’re happy to get that sorted out for you right away!

I know we’re all anxious, but when has a new company launch ever been easy? When haven’t there been delays? Even in large, established companies.

I’ve also been able to use the camera at my events since April, but what are two months of delays in the entire lifespan we can expect from the camera? If everything works correctly, we won’t remember this delay or whether there was more or less communication. In fact, even if there’s “poor communication” according to some, I haven’t felt such a close-knit staff as this one, both in these posts and when I’ve written to them privately. The fact that it’s a small company for now makes this closer contact easier. What other company would tell you about unexpected events like lost phones or emergencies on a plane? That’s what closeness is.

The only thing that could be criticized is if the product arrives with a problem, or if there’s a lack of ability to fix a potential problem. Then I would understand the criticism of the company.

I see more than 42 cameras in the photo, so I’m definitely in the first batch!

Got a flat tire this morning and now this!:rofl: I have to admit i’m a little pissed because i’m gonna miss a great shoot with Red Bull on May 19th but oh well, they’ll be more opportunities like this in the futur once I get my camera. But again, I’m fully aware that i’ not buying a Sony camera here, you guys are a new company and delays like this were to be expected.

Hey Jing, thanks for the update  could you say how many units will be shipped in the first phase? That way we can estimate whether it’s already time to receive the address confirmation email or not.

Initially the first batch was around 200 units, so hopefully that’s still the case!
